The Purple Door
What is The Purple Door?
In 2005, Elly and her husband Scott sold their small business on Cape Cod and relocated to Connecticut. Scott had an opportunity to rejoin a large firm and Elly could stay home with their two small children. Wanting to satisfy her creative drive while being home with the kids, Elly set up shop selling jewelry collections on their dining room table in their 1920's Colonial home in Connecticut. With a strong business background (she had founded and run three retail stores on Cape Cod) and knowledge of buying and display, Elly's business flourished. Her retail experience taught her that women not only want fun, fashionable jewelry, but they want it at an affordable price. Based on this concept, Scott and Elly's home quickly became the place "where girlfriends love to shop."
Within a year, Elly had convinced Scott that they could work this business together and support their family. It had always been their goal to design a life that allowed them flexibility to be with their kids and the opportunity to work together in their own business. They took this dream and their promising young business, moved to Nashville, TN, and have never looked back.
Why "The Purple Door"?
Elly was looking for a fun, memorable name for her new venture. While giving directions to her close friend visiting from Cape Cod, she concluded with, "...when you reach our street we are the 4th house on the left, it's green with a purple door. And by the way, on your drive here could you help me think of a name for my new business?" When her friend Jen arrived, she walked in the front door, smiled and said, "You should call your business The Purple Door."
The Purple Door Today
Elly now designs the jewelry maintaining her original belief that the pieces should be beautiful and affordable without sacrificing quality. By incorporating color, a variety of textures and all natural materials, Elly and Scott have created a jewelry line that retailers love. It is now sold in stores nationwide and overseas. Although they have outgrown their dining room table, their door remains purple.
